Selling photo sets
How to shoot, sequence and price photo sets for a clip store, and how sets fit alongside video.
Why sets belong in a clip store
Photo sets are quicker to make than video, easier to shoot alone, and sell to buyers who prefer stills or want more from a session they already liked. On VestaVids you upload sets alongside clips, price them separately, and can bundle a set with its clip. Treat them as a product in their own right rather than as leftovers.
Shooting and preparing a set that holds together
A set is a sequence, not a pile. The buyer should feel a progression from the first image to the last: an arrival, a middle, a close. Plan it in three or four beats before you start and shoot each beat thoroughly so you have choices.
Practical points:
- Light as carefully as for video. Stills are unforgiving of flat or mixed light.
- Keep the camera position consistent within a beat and change it deliberately between beats.
- Shoot more than you need, then edit hard. A tight set of fifteen to thirty strong images beats eighty with repeats.
- Check focus at full size before including an image. Soft frames that look fine as thumbnails disappoint when opened.
- Clear the background and remove identifying objects exactly as you would for a clip.
A phone is adequate in good light. A camera helps with shallow focus and low light, as with video.
Light correction, crop and a consistent colour treatment across the set are enough. Over-processed skin and heavy filters look dated quickly and can read as hiding something. Export at a size that looks sharp on a large phone or laptop screen without being enormous; check the current upload limits before preparing very large sets. Name files in order so they display in the sequence you intended.
Watermark previews and any images you post publicly to promote the set. Leave the purchased images clean or lightly marked; see the watermarks guide.
Pricing and positioning
Sets generally price below a clip of similar effort, but not drastically. Price by image count, specificity and production quality, the same way you price clips. A set from a popular clip's session can carry a higher price because buyers already want it.
Describe the set honestly: how many images, the premise, the outfit or setting, anything the buyer should know. Pick the strongest single image as the cover and make sure it represents the whole set rather than its one best moment.
Sets as a scheduling tool
Sets are useful for keeping a store active between clips. A session that produces one clip can also produce a set, released a week or two later, and sometimes a second set of outtakes for followers who want more of the person rather than the premise. That turns one afternoon of filming into three releases without new setup.
